Thanks to
castellucci, I found Patty Campbell's column on YA chick lit. It was wonderful to read this and see a rebuttal to Naomi Wolf's New York Times article, by acknowledging that yes, the Gossip Girls/A-List/Clique books aren't good books, but that there's plenty of authors who are using chick lit conventions to create good books.
(Although I've often argued that The A-List is the best of the bunch, due to the quality of the characterization and the writing, but that's another post.)
